The elegant sofas can be effortlessly reconfigured, breathing new life into the space to match the owners’ vision of a bright, airy sanctuary

Tucked away in the peaceful Bukit Timah neighborhood, the JS House is a stunning example of how thoughtful architectural design can turn a family home into a timeless retreat.

Home to a couple in their 40s and their two young children the two-storey house recently went through a major update. The project, led by ACO Architects and Architology Interiors, kept the original structure while giving the home a fresh, modern look.

“The owners wanted a facelift to the faux balinese additions made by the previous owners, and create a home with big, bright spaces for family time and gatherings,” explains Mr Lim Eng Kwee, principal architect at ACO Architects.

The redesign was brought to life with thoughtfully chosen furniture pieces from King Living, which fit well into the home’s minimalist yet cosy vibe.

“The simple clean designs matched the owner’s desire for something timeless and the modular furniture systems have been ideal for their growing family’s changing needs,” notes Mr Bu Shukun, design director at Architology Interiors.

Sustainability also played a role in the family’s furniture choices, leading them to select pieces with recyclable steel frames and durable modular designs built to last.

Here are some key King Living furniture pieces that now complete the JS House.

Aura sofa and ottoman: Movable backrest with removable covers

The owners chose the Aura sofa for their living room because of its standout feature, the omni positional backrest, which lets them easily adjust the seating to match their mood or accommodate guests. Crafted from high-resilience foam, it offers luxurious comfort, while the tailored covers are easy to remove for cleaning or updating with the season.

The sofa’s recyclable steel frame – which comes with a 25-year warranty – paired with the Postureflex seating system, also provides good back support and durability.

Paired perfectly with the Aura ottoman, designed to nestle seamlessly into the sofa’s curves, this collection delivers both style and function. The ottoman’s individually tailored covers can also be swapped out to match any aesthetic and are available in premium fabrics or luxurious European leather. The Aura sofa and ottoman set come in various relaxed neutrals and textural fabrics, including Brunswick Caramel (pictured above) and Brunswick Ricepaper. 1977 sofa: Space-maximising, modular design (in Leura Natural White)

Complementing the living room layout is the 1977 sofa – its low profile and relaxed curves offer a sleek, modern look, while the modular design allows the owners to rearrange the chaise or switch its position to effortlessly adapt to their space.

Winner of the 2024 Red Dot Design Award and 2023 Good Design Award, this sofa stands as a testament to both style and functionality.

The tailored, removable covers, made from premium fabrics, are machine washable and replaceable, while the five layers of high-resilience CFC-free foam and fibres promote comfort.

The 1977 sofa also comes with a steel frame, backed by the 25-year warranty, plus the Postureflex seating system for good back support.

The 1977 sofa comes in various colours including Leura Natural White (pictured above) and Tempest Wattle. Issho coffee and side tables: Curved solid wood tops in neutral colours

With their sculptural bases and asymmetrical, pebble-shaped tops, the Issho coffee and side tables are both artistic and practical.

Made from premium timber wood, the soft curves of the tabletops create a visually striking yet functional design. Whether used as standalone pieces or grouped together for a dynamic, layered look, they perfectly complement the large modular sofa arrangement in the JS House.

The Issho table range includes dining, coffee, and side tables, all designed to layer seamlessly with other furniture pieces. They come in a variety of finishes including smooth American Walnut and a brushed Onyx and Smoked Oak effect.

In JS House, these elegant tables sit on the Antipodes rug, which is handloom-woven from 100 per cent pure New Zealand wool. The rug’s hand drawn pattern, created by King Living’s in-house designers, captures the natural textures and flowing forms of landscapes, providing warmth and softness underfoot.

Its neutral palette of Sandstone (pictured above) and Natural, blends effortlessly with any decor, and the low-shedding design makes it ideal for busy living spaces, especially in homes with children.

The Antipodes rug is a lasting piece that will remain a staple for years to come. It is also endorsed by Care & Fair, an organisation advocating for ethical labour practices in the carpet trade. Read the full article at The Peak Magazine. Thank you The Peak Magazine for the feature!
